During the 2001-2002 school year, the 5th graders at Edgewood’s school were comissioned to create the single greatest animal research guides in the history of man, targeted at the first graders of the school. The results? Hilarious. Reminds one of a younger, more innocent time.
One can learn quite a bit from these fifth graders. For example, the entry for the beaver:
BEAVERS
The beaver is part of the mammal animal group. It lives in a lodge made of sticks and mud. The lodges are in rivers located in forested areas in North America.
The beaver eats bark, roots, plants, and fruits.
It is brown, with webbed feet, and a flat tail.
It is born alive. [Which is fairly rare in the animal kingdom - ITR]
The beaver is interesting because it chops down trees with its teeth.
Some other gems:
- The alligator is interesting because it looks neat.
- The gorilla is interesting because it uses its feet for hands and its hands for feet. It eats bamboo with its feet!!
- Pandas are interesting because they chirp, moan, make goat sounds, and bark, and squeal.
That’s just a few of the very interesting things you can learn from these ambitious kids. Some of the drawings are pretty amazing too. Others, not so much.
This fox is both well drawn, and probably high.
The Animal Internet-o-pedia is not the only Internet-o-pedia these ambitious kids made. Check out the others here:
Edgewood Elementary’s Internet-o-Pedia - Tackling topics such as dinosaurs, space, artists and more.
