“The Boy and His Wooden Bike”
For really no good reason, Marco Facciola, a 16-year-old high school student, constructed this wooden bicycle to fulfill a class requirement. He wrote that he was “required to complete a ‘personal project’ on a non-academic topic that is of interest” to him, which was apparently the burgeoning industry of wooden two wheeled modes of transportation. He simply wanted to show that his woodworking was second to none, and could think of no better way than by building the only bike one needs to check for termite damage, and liable to catch on fire if you ride too fast.

Maybe ITR is being too harsh. This is obviously an ambitious project and an amazing accomplishment. Surely I would not be able to do the same.
Anyways, the project came to his mind when his “Opa” told him about World War II in Holland, and how he built wooden wheels for his bicycle.

Pretty impressive, but the specifics of the woodworking kind of seems above me, and obviously this article would appeal most to people who know their way around a shop. If you know how to work your wood, you might be interested in hearing about the specifics of how this bicycle was made!
