If you were to commit a crime you’d probably do some planning to ensure you’d get away, right? Tell that to William David Sailsbury from Charleston, West Virginia who decided to rip off some parking meters but didn’t really think it through.
The accused
Salisbury was arrested for a fourth time in about a month for stealing money from parking meters. The man used a drill to break into the machines. At one point, he decided to plug the cord for his drill in a police guard house at the Capitol. The power drawn from the drill blew a fuse, prompting officers to go outside to check on the problem. After a brief chase, Salisbury was able to get away from police but cameras were able to him in the act.
Police showed up at his home, took the drill away, and got an arrest warrant for destruction of property. When they returned, Salisbury wasn’t around. Instead, the absolute genius of a criminal was at it again. This time he wised up and bought a cordless drill. After another chase, police found him and arrested him.
This guy is pretty special to say the least. You’d think he would have given up after police found out who he was. Police think he got around $150-$170 from the thefts but caused about $293 worth of damage.
Let’s say the guy bought the first drill for $25 and the cordless one for $40, he only got about $105-$85 or $12-$15 per meter. Hmm, I wonder if he’ll be applying that money to his $3000 bond.
