“Bear” Grylls, who stays in hotels in his survival show Man vs. Wild.
Allow us to tell you the story of “Bear”, the badass dog, who somehow survived nearly 3 months in the cold wilderness, after possibly being hit by a snowplow and suffering broken legs, a crushed pelvis, and being surrounded by the dangers of a forest… oh yeah, it’s winter time too in Nova Scotia.
Wow. More below!
Arie and Jackie Levering received surprising news when they learned that their dog Bear had been found, after being lost for 2 and a half months in the wilderness. In Nova Scotia, where it’s pretty cold. Okay, really cold at this time of the year, “Bear”, a black Lab mix, first became missing on November 11th, during the first major snowstorm of the season. It was playing with another dog, and only that one returned home. Bear was so badass, that it dragged itself out of a forest and found help with broken back legs and a crushed pelvis. Somehow, Bear survived, avoiding other animals like coyotes, possibly eating snow and living of his body fat.
“Bear had been brought in by David Lewis, a Transportation Department employee who had stopped his truck on the Alpena Road one day to fill in his logbook. As he sat there, a frail dog crawled out of the woods and up to his truck.” Bear was brought into a vet on January 23rd, weighing only 11 kilograms (compared to the 36 that it had previously weighed).
The Leverings, the owners of Bear, believe that Bear probably was struck by a snowplow. Which makes sense considering there was a major snowstorm, few cars, and Bear had suffered so much damage.
The story has a happy ending of course, as Bear is safe at home and becoming healthier over time. Bear will have to undergo surgery to rebreak and set his bones properly, but now Bear is safe from the elements and other animals. Amazingly tough dog! Beastly Bear! Badass Bear! Bear-ing the brunt of winter elements! I know you can’t “Bear” these “jokes”, so I’ll stop now. But I had just “Bear”ly begun…
