Paramedics were rushed to a Scotland school when 25 children were hurt during a hallway pileup. The cause? A student lost her shoe and stopped to pick it up.

“It would appear that the cause of the crush was an innocent and accidental trip by a pupil, who paused to retrieve a shoe but was overtaken by the mass of following pupils unaware that there was a problem ahead.”

The students at Denny High School in Scotland suffered from minor injuries such as sprained ankles, sore heads, and dizziness. Although school officials supervise the hallways, none were aware of the incident until after it happened.
The school of 1,250 students tends to be extremely crowded during classroom transitions. The school, built in the 1960’s, is plagued with issues stemming from being overcrowded. A new school is under construction but will not be completed until early 2009.
