Here’s a video of an experiment Thomas Edison conducted in 1903 when researching electricity. In this video, Edison attempts to find what electricity does to an elephant. Look at the elephant’s feet when the electricity is turned on. *Warning: Video may be too shocking for some people*

Although the video is pretty twisted/crazy, it’s interesting to see what happens during the electrocution process. Still, I’m sure they could have found something better/smaller to experiment on than an elephant. Seems like they really wanted to see how it affected elephants.

Edison wasn’t really “experimenting” in this case; he was trying to demonstrate that AC is deadly. At the time, Edison was championing the use of DC, which is less harmful to living things. His business rivals advocated the use of AC. To attempt to scare the public away from AC, Edison would stage publicity events at which he would electrocute dogs and cats using AC. The electrocution of this elephant — her name was Topsy, and she was a badly mistreated circus elephant that had killed her handlers and thus already condemned to die — was his ultimate “proof” that AC was too dangerous to be used in people’s homes. He was wrong, of course. You can look up the incident on Wikipedia for more info or verification — it’s a really interesting story.
