Grey Wolf

Fish and Wildlife experts have confirmed that a wild gray wolf has been found in the state. Wolves were driven out of the state 160 years ago by farmers. Although a new wolf has been found, farmers are once again driving them out.

The grey wolf mauled over a dozen sheep before it was killed by a farmer on Shelburne farm. Although the event happened in October, US Fish and Wildlife officials recently conducted genetic tests that confirmed it was a pure bred grey wolf. The closest grey wolf populations are in Ontario and Quebec, leading many to believe the wolf traveled to Massachusetts from there.
The discovery of the grey wolf is giving many hopes that the grey wolf will make a comeback in the region, with the exception of farmers. At least farmers have one less to worry about. Here’s for another 160 years without the grey wolf in Massachusetts! (We don’t mean that at all. We hope they make a comeback.)
