It’s Truly! Random!

Pedestrians are apparently dumber now than ever before, London’s bringing in the padded lampposts

Man walking into padded post

This man is about to walk into a padded post, thank goodness it’s not unpadded!

In London, they are trialling “padded lampposts” in order to protect pedestrians. A study carried out in the city found that one in ten (or 10 percent) of people have hurt themselves while focused on their mobile phone screen, obstensibly by running into a lamppost. In Brick Lane, they are wrapping up lampposts and plan to run a poll to gauge the response there. If successful, England plans to roll out more padding for their posts, in Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool. We have to ask only one question, if a person WALKS into a post, isn’t it really all their fault? Surely money could be better spent fighting drugs, crime, and the like, and not the temporary embarrasment and pain of walking into a lamppost (on your own volition!).
