Ferrari pissed about man’s custom Ferrari stretch limo

Ferrari custom stretch limo

The world’s fastest limo - top speed of almost 170mph, and 0-60 in under six seconds

Ferrari is suing Dan Cawley for creating a stretch “Ferrari” limousine for infringing upon their trademark. Ferrari wants Cawley to remove all Ferrari badges and insignia from the vehicle, and promise to never modify a Ferrari ever again. Dan is fighting the vehicle company however, claiming that since he bought the car he should be legally entitled to do what he wants with it. Who will win?

The modified 360 Ferrari Modena was cut in half and stretched out with a 9.5 foot long piece of custom hand-built carbon fiber, making the car over 20 feet long and allowing it to seat eight people. Since it only weighs a few hundred pounds more than the standard Ferrari, the car still has plenty of “oomph” and can go from 0 to 60 miles-per-hour in under six seconds and can top off at around 166 miles-per-hour. Now that is one fast limo. Not sure how easy it would be to enjoy champagne and television hurtling down a freeway at over a 160 miles per hour, but in this vehicle that’s possible!

Ferrari gave Dan Cawley 14 days to remove all logos and symbols related to Ferrari because they claim the modified car is no longer a Ferrari. Cawley plans to fight this legally however, and even claims to have asked Ferrari UK before hand if the conversion process was allowed (and they apparently stated that he could “do what he liked”).

Dan Cawley owns Style Limousines in Cheadle, Manchester, and converted the car at a cost of almost 200,000 pounds, or over $300,000 US dollars. He wanted to build a car that would give “ordinary people the chance to have a ride in something they’d normally only dream of.” Converting the car was a year long process, assisted by a former McLaren carbon fiber expert. Other cars in his collection (besides the world’s fastest limo) include Europe’s longest stretch Hummer (with ten wheels!) and an extended Range Rover Sport and Porsche Cayenne.

The limo may look ugly, but people rent it out at 700 pounds an hour (over $1000US). You can kind of see Ferrari’s point, the limo is fundamentally different than the original Ferrari car, and they consider such modified vehicles to not be Ferrari’s anymore. Not that the Ferrari company needs any more publicity, but allowing Dan to keep the logos on seems to have little cost to the company. Of course, the Ferrari brand is kind of getting diluted by odd branding practices, such as the egregious Segway “Ferrari Limited Edition” scooter. Yeah, it looks like a joke, but it’s so real.
