It’s Truly! Random!

Lefkos and balloons

Unfortunately, this staged photograph involves balloons with no diamond engagement ring inside…

Poor Lefkos Hajji of London, England. He reportedly spent 6,000 pounds (over $12,000 US$) on a diamond ring for his 26 year-old girlfriend Leanne. He told a florist to put the diamond ring in a helium balloon, and proudly walked out of the store to surprise his girlfriend. Unfortunately for the poor guy, he forgot to actually hold the string, and a gust pulled the balloon from his hands just as he left the shop. He wanted to literally “pop the question,” but now he’s thinking about working on his grip.

Lefkos is reported as saying, “I couldn’t believe it. I just watched as it went further and further into the air. I felt like such a plonker. It cost a fortune and I knew my girlfriend would kill me.” He reportedly spent the next two hours trying to chase the balloon with his car but eventually gave up. Supposedly, Lefkos had been planning the proposal for “ages,” and wanted to “literally pop the question.” Unfortunately, he didn’t listen to Florist Helen Savva’s advice: “I hope you hold on to it.”

Sadly, after Lefkos told his girlfriend the story she was pretty mad. According to Lefkos, his girlfriend is “refusing to speak” to him until he gets her a new ring. Ungrateful sounding yes, but Lefkos honestly should have probably made sure to secure that balloon. If you live in England and stumble upon a random balloon, pop it! Maybe you’ll find a valuable diamond ring. But please, return it to who it belongs too, no matter how foolishly he might have lost it.
