It’s a dummy bomb! Get it? Get it?
Whoops. An Air National Guard jet mistakenly dropped a practice bomb on the Canyon Creek apartment complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The foundation was damaged and the power knocked out, but fortunately no one was injured. The bad part of the story is the fact that the pilot thought he had dropped the bomb over a field in Kansas, and not on a civilian complex in Oklahoma. If the military sports this kind of accuracy in real missions, we might accidentally start wars by bombing the wrong country…
The fighter aircraft was on a training mission, flying from Tulsa to Smokey Hill Gunnery Range in Salina, Kansas. It was a routine training mission involving practice bombing runs with BDU-33 bombs. Apparently, after takeoff the bomb released itself from the aircraft. The pilot was oblivious to this fact, and apparently dropped a dummy dummy bomb on an empty Kansas field. Who’s the dummy bomb now?
The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are investigating. If it’s revealed that the pilot’s ex-girlfriend lived in the apartment complex, this story would be a lot more interesting. The manager of the apartment complex had little to say, preferring to be anonymous. He said that “God must love the people at Canyon Creek.” I suppose that’s one way to look at it, but I don’t see God dropping dummy bombs on all the other places he loves…
