Girls saves busload of students, gets punished by the school

A 15-year-old girl saved a busload of students after the bus driver became unconscious. How was the student rewarded for the act? She was disciplined by school officials.

Amanda Rouse from Marina High School was on her way to school when she suddenly felt ill and decided to ride the bus back home instead. As the driver, Christine Gray, continued her route picking up elementary school children, she made a sharp turn, reportedly hit a bump, and flew out of her seat. The driver hit her head in the process and was knocked unconscious. The bus, now out of control, began swerving across the street and struck several parked cars.

Amanda, sitting behind the bus driver, quickly moved to the driver’s seat, applied the brakes, and stopped the bus, saving the lives of the 40 children on the bus. Under normal, and morally correct, circumstances, Amanda would be hailed as a hero but school officials think otherswise. Instead of congratulating Amanda, school officials disciplined her for skipping school. The exact nature of the discipline is not entirely known. Some news sources claim it was suspension while others say it was merely detention. School officials said she should have entered the school and told an administrator she was not feeling well instead of staying on the bus but had she done so she would not have been on the bus to save the children.

This is an excellent example of stupid school’s “no-tolerance” policies can be. Amanda did break a school rule but should she be punished given the circumstances?
