The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission seized 411 bottles of illegal liquor from Bayou Bob’s Bazos River Rattlesnake Ranch. The bottles contained moonshine and, as an added gift, a 10-inch rattlesnake. *WARNING* *More pictures of gross liquors below*
Officials believe the bottles were being sold under the pretense of having aphrodisiac properties, which include experiencing hallucinations by ingesting the snakes venom. Under current laws, the sale of such bottles of liquor is illegal and the owner faces several years in prison and a fine for the offense. Officials point out the owner, Bob Popplewell, was not actively marketing the product but individuals interested in purchasing it only had to ask for it.
Popplewell was recently in the media when he testified before Texas Parks and Wildlife commissioners “that he shipped 12,000 turtles out of state in 2006 and another 30,000 in 2005. Popplewell said that most of the turtles are shipped to Asia where they are considered a delicacy.”
“TABC officials said they plan to file charges next week for the sale of alcohol without a permit and possession of alcohol with the intent to sell. Penalties for those charges include up to a year in the county jail and fines up to $1,000 upon conviction.”
Although liquor infused with a rattlesnake sounds sketchy, it’s not the worst thing out there. There are many other options available such as liquor with cobras, scorpions, and lizards. Even baby mice, which is sold in Korea, because
