Radio shout-out results in party being crashed by 2000 people

Party!

When 17-year-old Sarah Ruscoe’s parents decided to throw her a birthday party they only expected a total of 300 people. They never expected someone to give her a radio shout-out that resulted in 2000 people showing up.

The family expected a big, yet controlled party at their historic 21-bedroom Georgian manor in Devon and equipped themselves with four bouncers just as a precaution. They never thought the bouncers would not be enough to control the party-goers.

Before the party took place, one of the guests called a radio show and reportedly told “the a BBC announcer Peter Tong and asked him to do a “shout-out” to anyone who wanted to join the celebrations.” Over 2000 guests showed up to the party and caused all hell to break loose.

“When the uninvited guests turned up, paintings were soon torn from the walls, windows and mirrors smashed and chandeliers and doors damaged.”

The guests were too much for the bouncers to handle yet the girl’s father still tried to ask people to leave. Much to his surprise, no one would listen.

“They were screaming and hollering and when someone broke something they cheered,” he said.”

It took several police officers to get the guests to leave. The family has now threatened to file a lawsuit against the BBC for disclosing the whereabouts of the party. The family claims the radio announcer should be held accountable because he knew what announcing such a party to the public would do.

“A BBC spokesman said the announcer did not reveal the exact address of the party but read out details of a “mansion party” taking place in Bovey Tracey which had been provided by a listener.”

The radio announcer should have known better than to describe where the party was taking place but should the BBC be forced to pay for the damages? Whose fault do you think it is? One thing though, what was the person who called the radio station thinking? What part of that call seemed like a good idea, inviting anyone to attend?
