The “Great Illinois Corn Flake” is for sale on ebay!
Ladies and gentlemen, you have less than 2 days remaining to bid on the “Great Illinois Corn Flake,” a piece of frosted corn flake, pulled out of a box of Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes, that bears a striking resemblance to the great state of Illinois. You can check out the eBay page but the bidding has already reached $200,500. We’re pretty sure (and hope) that those are joke bids, but it definitely puts this piece of cereal out of our price range!
The flake was apparently “discovered” by Emily McIntire, a 15-year-old sophomore in high school living in Chesapeake, Virginia. She claimed that she found it because she was grabbing fistfuls of cereal “on her way to class” when she noticed the flake. Her story suggests that perhaps she was looking for interesting flakes however, as she stated that, “it was almost to my mouth, it didn’t look like Illinois at first because it was held the wrong way.” Sounds like she was searching for the next great corn flake.
The flake is reportedly “larger than your average flake, measuring about 2 inches in length and 1 3/8 inches in width, and is just lightly frosted,” according to the ebay listing. They continue to claim that “its large size adds impact to its unusual shape,” and that it has not been altered. Now, we can’t imagine how such a thing could be worth more than a few nickels much less nearly a quarter of a million dollars, but we cant judge. We’re afraid the McIntire family might be disappointed if they can’t get the money people promised to bid.
Currently, the corn flake is residing in a “fine jewelry box with a lot of cotton wrapped around it” according to Emily’s older sister Melissa.
