In an apparent effort to appeal to the demographic that loves Harry Potter, Yahoo! Personals wants you to be a “better love wizard.” They beseech you to “cast your spell” on your next unwilling victim. By “cast your spell” we suppose they mean sending out flirtatious emails to any female that seems remotely attractive, and has a good chance of settling for someone like yourself, a magic loving love wizard. We know it’s pretty much harmless and cheesy marketing, but we found it odd and a little creepy. It really doesn’t help breakdown the shrinking stigma against online dating either, conjuring up images of unkempt Dungeons and Dragons players hoping to woo a lucky girl through the power of potions and dark magic.
