Playboy is a powerhouse in the literary world, propelling authors beautiful women to fame
Playboy, the famous nudie magazine, appears in newsstands in 24 different countries, providing men (and a few women) with enlightening articles, directed advertising, and apparently pictures of naked women. Well the 25th nation to receive the “gift” of Playboy will be the Philippines, which will be launched without the nudity.
The common excuse for reading a Playboy (or Maxim and other male magazines) is that one is only “reading it for the articles.” Well, the magazine will still feature women, but they will be clothed (but Playboy promises they will be beautiful). Playboy is targeting the “more mature” and “affluent readership” that scorn FHM and Maxim. We’re not so sure that Playboy is all that classy, or different…
Playboy may have been around for over 50 years, but we don’t know if the magazines will be picked up by people any different than the Filipino men who buy FHM and Maxim. They seem a bit full of themselves at the Playboy mansion!
According to Beting Laygo Dolor, the magazine will be “not as tame as the Indonesian edition.” The Indonesian edition doesn’t just have no nudity, it has no women showing skin! These local editions of Playboy usually feature writings from the countries themselves and try to incorporate Playboy staples like “playmate of the month,” even if the women are wearing clothes (or hoods, whatever the case might be).
