Police were called to a middle school in South Pasadena, California because of a reported assault by a teacher upon a child. This “assault” actually turned out to be much less than that in the eyes of the police, who quickly closed the case. Apparently the teacher “used the tip of her finger and patted (the student) on the forehead.” Well, school officials don’t feel the same way as the police, and are pushing for a greater punishment for the forehead tapping substitute teacher.
According to Craig Cooper of the South Pasadena Police Department, the teacher only tapped the students forehead and stated “Come on, you, you can do better than that.”
The Superintendent of the school district, Brian Bristol, believes that the substitute teacher’s conduct was “physically and verbally assaultive,” referring the behavior as “unacceptable” and stating that the substitute teacher would never again be allowed to teach in the district.
The incident was reported to teachers by other students, so obviously something did happen. The school officials made a complaint to child services in addition to calling police, and the LA County child services representatives are still looking into the case.
We don’t know the real story, but if the police saw nothing, we’re inclined to believe them. Safety of children is kind of priority with them.
