What looks like a new type of fish was found in the Brigham City, Utah pond this week. The fish is only one of 4,000 that popped to the surface after the ice on the lake thawed. Officials aren’t completely sure whether it is a new type of animal or whether it’s just a badly decomposed trout. Umm…that does not look like a trout to us.
Officials aren’t sure what caused the death of the 4,000 animals. They believe the water was either poisoned or the thick ice covering the top caused the fish in the pond to run out of oxygen. Among the fish found were carp and goldfish, fish that were stocked in the pond. Biologists have not decided what to do with the animal. They are considering letting it completely decompose naturally if it is found not to be a trout in order to study its bone structure.
This is such a weird looking fish. Kind of like a mix between a flatfish and a piranha. The question remains, are there more fish like this in the lake and if not, what happened to the others.
