A Bay Shore, New York man was arrested Saturday morning for almost killing another man. He didn’t attack the other guy or anything though. Instead, the man set a booby trap in his home to keep intruders out but for some reason he didn’t put the trap away for a Verizon technician that was scheduled to come to the apartment. Perhaps he just wanted to test the thing out.
Eric Stetz set up a crutch with a duct taped hunting knife above the door to his home. The whole thing was tied to an eleastic cord that would make the knife stab someone trying to break in. Wait a sec, what? Stetz planned on the knife plunging into an intruder’s head, thus disabling the intruder. For some reason, though, Stetz decided to leave the trap up even though a Verizon technician was scheduled to come into his apartment for maintenance.
The landlord warned Stetz of the mantanance and told him the work was necessary. Luckily, the technician never faced the trap because the landlord entered the apartment before him to make sure it was safe. When the landlord tried to open the door he noticed some sort of contraption set up behind it, making it hard for him to fully open it. Thankfully, the guy was cautious and checked to see if there was anything worth noticing. You can imagine his surprise when he saw the huge knife above him.
Stetz’s mother claims the he was trying to protect himself from squatters that lived in the building. He was supposedly afraid of them trying to break in so he set up the trap by his door and above the door to his bedroom. Stetz is now free on bail.
This guy might have other problems such as mental issues. If squatters in the building was actually a problem then he should have notified the city. If that didn’t accomplish anything then calling the city is always an option. Also, he knew the landlord was going to go into the apartment so leaving the traps set up meant he pretty much wanted someone to set them off. Stetz is being charged with reckless endangerment but we bet the prosecutor could actually tack on more charges.

Seriously…that’s not a hunting knife, that’s a kitchen chef’s knife.
