Bus driver tries to squeeze bus under overpass, fails epically

April 18th, 2008 · No Comments

The Garfield High School girls’ softball team was heading home on a chartered bus after a sad 10-0 loss to Lake Washington High. Unfortunately for the girls, the “highlight” of the trip was on the ride back. The driver of the Journey Lines bus hit the top of an overpass, shearing off the entire roof of the bus and breaking several windows. 22 people were brought to a local hospital with minor injuries but all were released after treatment. The bus stood nearly 12 feet high at 11 feet and 8 inches, but apparently the driver thought it might “squeak by” under the bridge with the sign that read “Low clearance, 9 feet 0 inches”. He was wrong, evident by the photos!

The driver of the charter bus has been charge with “hitting a structure with impaired clearance” by police, as “being a dumbass” is thankfully not a crime. “Brad” the driver neglected to make any comments, but Steven Abegg, Journey Lines president stated that he knew “how it happened” but had no comment. Hopefully the Arboretum Aqueduct is okay. Thankfully none of the team, coaches, or driver was seriously hurt by the accident.
