Not just a fire drill: School stages fake school shooting

Practice school shooting in Massachusetts
Police and students at Stoughton H.S. participated in a “practice school shooting” Tuesday

We don’t know what kind of neighborhood Stoughton High School in Massachusetts is in, but we worry about it now. On Tuesday the school staged a “practice school shooting” with a fake shooter but real police. The fake shooter began the drill on the third floor, and police rushed to stop the threat armed with non-lethal guns. Apparently “practice school shootings” may soon be as commonplace as fire drills, a sad reflection on modern society. We can’t believe we live in a world where people would even conceptualize the need for a “school shooting drill.”

The principal seemed to like the exercise, giving him a rush that discipling students just can’t replicate. He was a student during the training and was caught in the crossfire. Here’s what he had to say about it:

It’s about keeping student’s safe. It was very intense. I’m glad I had the opportunity to do it.

Executive Officer Tom Murphy of the Stoughton police department seemed to think that the trial was a success, calling the drill “as real as you can get.” You know, minus the media attention and senseless killing, thank goodness.

What do you think about this drill? Is it too much or necessary in the modern American educational system?

I think that is a good idea for the students and police needs to have a shooting drills and practice and learn how to be safe. Never let anyone to get killed or hurt by a student who has a real gun in any school. I think it is a very good idea to have a shooting drill practice and shotting safety in school. It is just like fire drill practice and learn how to get out of a real fire when an fire alarm sounds. That is the law for the school shooting safety and drills too.

There’s nothing wrong with the neighborhood, this was done in response to being prepared after the VT shooting. There weren’t actual classes going on, and it was done during a school vacation. I’m glad it was done, it at least shows that these police officers are ready, and truly know how to handle a situation such as this. I’d soo much rather for my child to go to a school where they practiced this, rather than one where it would be pandaemonium just from the first responders trying to figure out what to do. GOOD JOB STOUGHTON!

This article is completely misleading and is depicting the opposite of what this situation truly was.

This article is complete BS! Whoever wrote it is obviously untrained at their job and should be charged for spreading Slander! This is the complete reverse of what happened.

Actually, if the article is complete slander, it does not mean the journalist is untrained. It just means that they do not do his/her job correctly. I’d rather my policemen know how to protect the students in my town rather than not. This makes me a little less paranoid next time I walk into my history class.
