PETA pursuing pigeon poacher prowling Seattle

Pigeon shot in the head with a dart
That has to hurt! Someone in Seattle is shooting these “flying rats” with darts!

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is offering $2,000 in an attempt to find out who is impaling pigeons in downtown Seattle with metal darts. That’s right folks, someone is shooting 3-4 inch long “needlelike projectiles” at the heads of pigeons. Apparently several Seattle residents have spotted pigeons with the darts stuck in their head (like the one pictured), and called PETA as soon as they could. Police, and the Seattle Animal Shelter are also interested in finding the pigeon perpetrator.

The darts were fired using a blow gun, and when the darts remain in the pigeon’s head it raises risks of infection. The darts have actually avoided the pigeon’s brain, lodging directly behind the bird’s eyes. Tori Perry of PETA says that the end result of a dart to a pigeon’s head is “a very, very painful death.”

Authorities have had trouble tracking and capturing birds which have been impaled with darts, going through several loafs of bread in an attempt to get them close enough for capture.

Who would do something so heinous and just unnecessary?

The guy deserves to be paid $2000 for the service he’s providing by hunting these useless and disease carrying flying rats.
