General Motors recently finished a multi-year research project where it used human bodies to crash test cars. The study investigated what happens to the body when involved in an accident. If you ever thought where your body might go when you donate it to science, this is it. A representative of the Swedish Road Administration had this to say:
“For certain things, it’s important to use cadavers. [The tests] involved people who had donated their own bodies”
In addition, the study helped improve current crash test dummies in order to avoid having to use people. Naturally, GM and Saab, one of the divisions involved, deny the study actually took place but it is confirmed by the Swedish Road Administration.
“We are with GM through thick and thin. We conduct our own research and try to find other methods to achieve our results, with the help of computers, for example,” said Saab spokesperson Christer Nilsson to Expressen.”
The next step is to use dead animals in order to see what happens to your pets during accidents, just kidding although we wouldnt be surprised. We’re sure people who donate their bodies to science never expect to end up being a crash test dummy but hey, at least it’s being put to good use.
