The passenger of a biplane jumped out after the pilot informed him of engine trouble. As the 65-year-old pilot prepared for a crash landing, the passenger became terrified, unbuckled his seat belt, climbed on the wing, and jumped out as the plane landed. The pilot crash landed into a hay bale going 40mph and managed to walk away safely while the passenger wasn’t as lucky.
He didn’t die but got pretty hurt because of his idiotic decision. The pilot found the man 50 meters away from the plane screaming in agony from a broken leg. Honestly, if he thought jumping out was a good decision than he should have sucked it up and dealt with the pain.
“He decided to jump because he was concerned that if the aircraft hit a hay bale the engine would be pushed into the cockpit, causing him serious injury.”
After investigating the incident, officials found the passenger had been involved in two previous flights that had experienced engine trouble, both caused when he closed the throttle “to give pilots the “opportunity to practise unplanned forced landing procedures”.” The passenger works for Delta Aviation. His boss said he has no idea what went through the man’s head when he jumped out. It’s pretty scary to know there’s an airline employee out there who purposely causes engine failure just for kicks. Even worse is the fact he doesn’t know what to do in case of a crash. He must be awesome at his job.
