You’d think the title is a joke, but apparently the future is here, and it’s sweet! Yves Rossy, a former pilot, has spent the last five years making and refining a personal jetpack with 10ft rigid wings and four Germanbuilt model aircraft engines. More pictures and video after the jump. After being dropped from a plane at 8,000 feet, Rossy soared, diving and climbing, rolling and waving like any self-respecting rocketman should. A picture gallery and video of the feat after the jump!
Yves Rossy compared flying with the jetpack to “being on a motorbike.” A really, really expensive motorbike, as the rocketpack cost well over $200,000 and hundreds of hours. He plans to cross the English Channel next, and then wants to fly in the Grand Canyon. Those are some pretty lofty goals! Safety of course is paramount, so Rossy doesn’t fly without a standard and backup parachute, the former required for landing. We assume landing without a parachute in a winged-jetpack might not go so smoothly…
