FakeTV: The \

Let’s face it, most people out there don’t have security systems in their homes so they have to resort to other tactics to discourage criminals from breaking in. For example, some people add extra locks to their doors or install, mostly ineffective, flood lights around their homes that light up when someone passes by. Well, how about leaving a television on in order make it look like someone is watching TV at 4am? Better yet, how about getting a lamp that simulates a TV in a room? This company invented that in case you thought about it.
FakeTV is a lamp that emits a blue-hued light that simulates the same amount of light expelled from a 27″ TV. In addition, the “computer” that controls the lamp slightly changes the lights color to make it appear as if the image is changing and automatically turns it on at dusk and shuts it off at dawn. The benefit of the lamp is that leaving the TV on all night would cost an arm and a leg in electricity but the lamp only uses the same amount of electricity as a night light.

Would this thing actually work though? In theory it might deter burglars but whether it would work in real life is another thing. Regardless, the makers of the product really feel it can make your home more secure and state it should be coupled with an alarm system for maximum effectiveness.

What if I Already Have a Burglar Alarm System?
You have an alarm system– great! You reduce your odds of a break-in by roughly 2/3. What about the remaining 1/3? Thieves can still cause you much misery in a “smash and grab” robbery. You still want to make your home look occupied, and FakeTV goes a long way to creating the “somebody is home” impression.

We will actually pass on this one. We imagine this thing is nothing more than a very slow strobe light.
