Museum covers ancient mummies with cloth to protect the sensitive public

The Manchester Museum, with a renowned Egyptian department, are turning into a laughing stock of the academic world after they covered the naked remains of two mummies after they received “feedback” from vistors who felt it was insensitive to display unwrapped mummies. Apparently during the past 120 years it was alright for kids, families, and scholars to view the mummies in their “nakedness,” but today’s generations can’t handle a bit of ancient nudity. Why a museum covered up the mummies because of a small amount of public pressure is beyond belief. What’s the point of it too, when it essentially renders the exhibit pointless? Come one come all, and see the ancient mummy… under a shawl!

According to Nick Merriman, a spokesman for the museum:

We get a stream of feedback saying it is insensitive to display unwrapped mummies.

We are trying to follow Government guidelines about how they should be displayed with respect and sensitivity.”

If the public wanted the mummies unwrapped, the museum would take that “very seriously”.

Museum vistors, academics worldwide, and the chairman of the Manchester Ancient Egypt Society have all chimed in, often with incredulity. George Mutler, a professor at Harvard, said that
