Min Bahadur Sherchan, a 76-year-old Nepalese man, became the world’s oldest person to reach the summit of Mount Everest last Sunday. He beat a record formerly held by a Japanese climber named Katsusuke Yanagisawa by 5 years. Sherchan is a former soldier and active sportsman, and was able to scale the 29,029 feet tall mountain with little difficulty. His climbing guides reported that he was in good health descending from the summit, and undoubtedly a very happy (but cold) man. Scherchan was less than a month away from his 77th birthday, and waiting might have put his record completely out of reach! One 76-year-old man scales a mountain, I sleep in until noon. The world moves on. We wonder if anyone will shatter the record for oldest man to scale Mt. Everest in his shorts.
