There’s scorpions in that there watermelons!
12-year-old Megan Templeton was out shopping with her family at a local Wal-Mart on Sunday when her parents asked her to pick up a watermelon. Surprisingly, although the watermelon was seedless, it did come with a scorpion. An inch-long scorpion had managed to enter the country from Mexico with the rest of the watermelons and sat waiting for an unsuspecting victim. After reaching for the watermelon, Megan felt a sting and complained to her father that a scorpion stung her but her disbelieving father called her a liar. Ha, he was proved wrong.
Following the girl’s complaint, the father looked to the watermelons and saw a little scorpion crawl underneath the box. He notified store employees, who promptly caught it, and took Megan to the hospital. Luckily, the scorpion did not belong to the small group of scorpions actually capable of killing a person. Megan is expected to make a full recovery.
We thought they sprayed goods coming into the country for stuff like this but apparently not. A Wal-Mart spokesman claims the company is looking into the incident to figure out how the scorpion managed to arrive here. Regardless of what they find, chances are this little girl won’t want to eat watermelon for some time.
