Dunkin’ Donuts recently pulled an advertisement (pictured above) featuring celebrity chef Rachael Ray over claims that the picture offered symbolic support for terrorism. It’s not the iced coffee that is so offensive, but the scarf. It looks like the black-and-white checkered kaffiyeh, a traditional Palestinian scarf that some argue symbolizes Muslim extremism and terrorism. Dunkin’ Donuts is adamant that the scarf was selected by a stylist with no symbolic meaning behind it, and we find it a little ridiculous that they felt pressured to pull the ad. So is Rachael Ray a terrorist? Of course not, even if she does haunt my dreams… did I really just type that?
