Amsterdam Police are currently looking for the crazy person digging pits in places such as parks and is then lining them with spikes, you know, kind of like a booby trap. So far this year, police have had three such pits reported, the most recent after a man preparing a race course through the park stumbled upon the hole. Police say the man was setting up the course when he stepped on some branches and fallen leaves, which gave way almost instantly. He managed to avoid the spikes but a man earlier this year injured his foot after landing on the spikes.
Police say the pits are about 5 feet deep, 2.5 feet wide, and are lined with 6-12 inch metal spikes that are held in place by a concrete block. The maker of the pits is obviously putting attention to detail as he is putting quite a bit of effort to ensure his pits hurt people. So far injuries have been minor but officials fear things might get worse.
“A person could fall into this, but also a dog, a child, people walking, bikers, motorcyclists — anybody,” police spokeswoman Nicole Theuns.”
There are currently no leads and it seems the pits are being placed at random, albeit in the same area. This seems like something a crazy teenager would have seen on television and then decided to test to see if it worked. Hopefully the person is caught before someone gets seriously hurt because these pits have the potential to cause a lot of damage.
