The United States’ record breaking gas prices have caused many to change their fuel consuming practices. Some take public transportation instead of driving, others bike or walk to and fro, and some buy more fuel efficient vehicles. Meanwhile, a new trend has occurred involving lawnmowers. Apparently rising fuel prices have prompted individuals in the market for a new mower to buy a push mower instead. That’s great news push mower manufacturers, at least for what’s left of them.
Several retailers and manufacturers of push mowers have reported an increase in sales between 20-70 percent. Not only do push mowers run on people power as opposed to gasoline, the price is oftentimes lower than that of traditional gas-powered mowers which is even better for the consumer. In addition, the units are no longer the cumbersome lawn equipment that has become synonymous with old-school mowers but are instead easy to use, safe, and offer a variety of options depending on what you need it for. Although it’s nice that people are moving away from gasoline mowers, the fact of the matter is that most mowers use a negligible amount of gas. For example, one person interviewed said he’s cutting back on mowing from twice a week to once, saving him $14 a year but hey, something is better than nothing. At least people are trying to do their part to help the environment.
