For those that don’t know, “The Fast and the Furious” featured a group of thieves that would overtake semi-trucks on the road, hijack them, and steal the expensive electronics on-board. Well, it seems that a group of thieves from Romania got the idea to do this for real as the group travelled to Germany to rob trucks travelling on the autobahn at 60 miles an hour. The group would approach trucks, jump on them, break into the back, and hand equipment over to others, all while moving.
Reports of the group had been made to police ever since witnesses saw the events unfolding on the autobahn. On this occasion, police were told the gang was going to pull the stunt again on a certain stretch of the highway. Police waited and watched as the thieves pulled off the daring heist. Officials say the thieves approached a truck in the dead of night with their lights off. When they were in position behind the truck, an individual got out of his car, used a bolt cutter to break the door lock, opened the doors, and handed electronics to another person standing on the hood of the car, who then loaded them onto their vehicle. Another car would block the left lane to prevent other cars from pulling up to them and spotting what was going on.
Drivers would be unaware of what was going on because the thieves had their headlights off. The six thieves were captured shortly after the heist and are now being held by police. Officers have several questions for the group though but the thieves have so far refused to answer.
“They won’t tell us where they trained, how often they did this,” Radecke said. “If any other German police departments have seen odd truck thefts, we hope they contact us.”
This is one of those occasions where people take movies a bit too seriously. It’s amazing these guys were able to pull this off and quite frankly, pretty cool.
