Man Lifts: What You Should Know About Safety Precautions
This construction equipment information sponsored by Volvo Rents of Catano (San Juan area), Puerto Rico – The Lift Rental Puerto Rico Experts.
Aerial lifts or Man Lifts are powerful construction tools that can be seen on most large-scale construction projects. Such heavy equipment is composed of a platform raised by a lift. Generally the aerial work platform will have a guardrail for safety purposes. Man lifts come in many forms – aerial platforms, scissor lifts, articulating boom lifts, and cherry pickers are all different implementations of the same function. The high reach applications of this equipment is fairly straightforward — it elevates a worker to heights that are otherwise difficult to reach.
Of course, there are necessary safety precautions when operating a boom lift. While some man lifts are operated by the worker being lifted, and other lifts are operated by someone remaining on the ground, all lifts have one thing in common: all workers must undergo training for the equipment in question. Height requirements, fall protection, and load capacity are all issues that safety training will address.
Aside from the operation of a man lift, workers must also be trained in the inspection and maintenance of this equipment. Inspections must be conducted before each use of a man lift, without exception. Therefore, those inspecting the equipment must be familiar with the design and construction of that equipment. As stated previously, there are many different kinds of aerial lifts, and each has its own safety precautions.
