In the 1960s, civil rights leaders marched on Washington D.C. for jobs and freedom, fighting for the fundamental civil rights and equality for all in America. Just over a decade ago, the Million Man March shared that spirit, pushing African Americans to vote and become more politically active (using the rights gained by past civil rights leaders). Other “million” marches have included those against gun violence, lost jobs, and for strengthening families. These are all valuable causes, but the existence of a “Million DJ March” shows that the concept of a “million man march” has now officially jumped the shark. They don’t want to fight for rights, or equality, but “recognition” and money…

According to the Million DJ March website, on August 30th of 2008 DJs will “descend on Washington to celebrate decades of service to the entertainment industry. They will listen to speeches from leaders of music groups, founding DJs, and Civil Rights activists all on the dawn of a new election year.” The site continues to say that “disc jockeys will gather from all over the world to discuss the current state of the DJ, and highlight the true integral importance of their role.” But when you read through that you realize what it’s all about, namely some DJs looking more recognition and money.

We think this whole thing is a joke, and hope it is. The “Press” page only says “Pardon us while we reconstruct… It just gives you a reason to come back!!!” leading us to believe that our current post is probably the most visible and complimentary coverage out there.

We doubt there are even a million DJs in the world who would want to participate in this march, and figure it’ll be a tremendously small event.

3. A man moons a restaurant just a little too hard… instant karma? No one wants to see a strange naked man’s butt, much less a bloody one!

Other headlines:

• A nursing home for Alzheimer’s patients installed a fake bus stop for the forgetful seniors to wait at. The patients would complain that it’s a little mischievous to do that, but keep forgetting too.
• Stripper’s show canceled due to a lack of clothing. We would’ve taken that opportunity to skip to the “best part”.
• Citizens of one Ohio town can go to jail for failing to mow their lawns, because that’s one of the pressing issues of modern times.
• A lawyer/musician pathetically tries to give, then sell R. Kelly his CD while in court. Not enough for disbarment, but maybe it should be? Call it the “Cha Cha Time Clause”.
• As if parents didn’t have enough worries, a kid burned his feet in a playground when the ground spontaneously combusted. Yikes!
• A woman spectacularly fails on the Price is Right! She wasn’t as happy as the women George pleased. That’s a shame.

• Last week wasn’t a good week for the island of Japan. The Japanese woman who lived in a man’s closet unnoticed for a year is weird, but so is the Japanese man arrested for stalking a toll-free phone line to hear (and ostensibly “get off” on) an automated woman’s voice. Gross. Oh yeah, a Tokyo customs official lost $10,000 worth of marijuana… in a traveler’s bag.
• America didn’t skate by unscathed. Rachael Ray was somehow controversial because of a scarf she wore in a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial, and as a celebrity chef she couldn’t have been pleased if she heard that Americans are turning to Spam in these troubled economic times. Then we had our usual slate of crazy, horrible and confused Americans. God bless the USA!
• One lucky bastard found out a childhood toy was really an ancient gold Persian treasure worth nearly $1 million dollars.
• A crocodile fighting a shark and a scary spider who hunts frogs? What kind of site is this? Oh yeah, it’s “random”, that’s why we can put those kind of stories on here.

This is insane! It’s like a story from a Japanese horror film. How the hell can you not realize someone is living in your house for a whole year?

Was she just THAT quiet? How did she know for sure when he left? How was she never caught eating or taking showers for a whole year?!!?

THIS IS MADNESS!!!

We agree wholeheartedly “Jon,” though we never thought of quoting the movie 300. We assume that this man had a large house and busy life that left him little time to enjoy it, because there is really no other rational explanation. Obviously he had some discretionary income if he paid for security cameras that sent updates to his phone, that can’t be that cheap.

We hope the June is three times as awesome as May, which would be totally rad and arbitrary. Awesome!

Our favorite stories of the past week:

• Grandmas and grandpas are the newest drug mules. No one suspects grandma Betsy, carrying six kilos of cocaine! Speaking of mules, why was a Mexican donkey put in jail for three days?
• The world’s most diehard Indiana Jones fan is not as big of a loser as you’d think, straddling the bridge between sane and crazy. We just hope the communists don’t manage to squash his dreams.
• New York is now home to organized crime, America’s financial centers, and a $175 hamburger. God bless America!
• A guy files a lawsuit because of a fly in a bottle of water, and loses, embarrassingly. Quick summary: The Canadian Supreme Court basically called him a wimp.
• The governor of Montana speaks at a commencement for a graduating high school class of one. At least he got to be senior class president… and vice-president, treasurer, and secretary.
• Think your marriage is going south? One man is in deep trouble after trying to look at his wife’s face. Scandalous!
• We had some pretty neat images to share with you this past week, from the medieval church ruins revealed by drought and a plane landing on another plane. Sound like images from an Indiana Jones movie…

Comment of the week: FakeTV responds to our post on the FakeTV, a flashing light system designed to keep burglars away. After our critical commentary on the usefulness of a flashing object designed to mimic a TV, a spokesperson from the company responded to our post:

For what it’s worth, this was not an “easy” design. For example, we had to design special test instruments to gather the color and intensity variation data from real television, because our professional lab instruments were not sensitive enough. It took a LOT of time to come up with suitable algorithms to emulate the TV characteristics, in all the different sorts of programming that you see. And suitably nuanced. And then it was tough to meet (okay, only slightly miss) the cost target! We used our favorite optical CAD system, ZEMAX, to design the diffuser.

In any of our tests, anyway, nobody could tell the difference between the light from FakeTV and a real, operating television. So, even if the burglar knows that FakeTV exists, that is not likely to help him in his evil quest!

Our minds haven’t changed, but apparently it’s pretty difficult to build a light that mimics a television screen. The more you know.

Lastly, one teacher is in hot water after taping a kid’s mouth shut. The kid with the most problems is the one who was subpoenaed for an unpaid chiropractor bill. Once again, why do babies need chiropractors?
• Who says it can’t be fun to learn? We learned that pirates may have been the first democrats, and that thousands of gas pumps in America can’t handle the rising cost of gas. Phone companies charge 4 times more money for text message data than it costs to have the same data sent from the Hubble Space Telescope. What a bargain!

Wow, we gotta get up and do this all over again. And again. And again. All you have to do is read it! So do your part, and help us out!

• Drugs are bad kids! Weed growers and distributors had a particularly tough week. The owners of $4.5 million in marijuana forgot to pay their mortgage. Dozens of frat boys at San Diego State University were busted for dealing drugs like “newbies,” which is a sign that drug enforcement kind of works in the states, unlike in Mexico, where drug cartels openly taunt and recruit members. Wow!
• We had *some* serious news this past week: The US Army hopes to have an army of robotic spiders within the year, which is just plain cool. The “powers that be” have also decided who is most expendable during a pandemic, make sure you aren’t on that list! Lastly, turn off Bluetooth on your phone when you aren’t using it, you never know who might be tracking you!
• One more week, plenty of more stupid people. Read about the police officer who shot himself while teaching others, or yet another bank robber who left important personal information at the scene of the crime, writing his note on the back of a phone bill. While these two are obvious geniuses, don’t forget about the man who jumped out of a crashing plane, only to be injured while the pilot walked away unscathed!

Comment of the week: From Land trust buys part of 11 backyards…

In the post, we wrote about 818 Land Trust, that legally purchased a sliver of numerous backyards, and then asked for the homeowners for $30 a month or $800 for their sliver. “818LandTrust”, which may be a representative of the group, calling the homeowners “squatters at best”. How noble right? Well “Herman” replied with:

You dirty purloiner, you’re all just trying to get an easy dollar, douchebag.

Well said Herman! Any comment with any version of the word “purloin” gets our automatic seal of approval!

• Animals, animals, animals! A baby monkey thinks an adorable teddy bear is its mom, while one king penguin narrowly avoided being raped by an antarctic fur seal. Don’t even get us started on the man who is shooting pigeons in the head with darts in Seattle. That’s just twisted.
• We had a few mastermind criminals. A guy was arrested for drunk driving twice… within minutes. A man’s “warning shot” hit his friend in the head. Lastly, one man tried to cash in a $360 billion check, to start a record company. A huge record company no doubt!
