A new Non-Profit Tech Blog has just launched at http://nfptechblog.com/ providing public sector IT professionals with advice about not for profit accounting software from industry professionals.

The blog will focus on Microsoft Dynamics products including their omnipresent lines of customer relationship management and accounting software.

The Non-Profit Tech Blog’s goal is to connect industry experts – mainly Microsoft Partners with philanthropic clients – and non-profits. Contributors will write about choosing a Microsoft Dynamics product, finding the right partner to host or implement it, software capabilities specific to non-profits and getting the most value out of systems an organization may already own.

The blog will also be a place for Microsoft Partners to publish non-profit accounting software case studies like this one about how Unicef is using Microsoft Dynamics CRM to streamline their business operations.

Often times when I’m asked to write title tags for a site, I will find out that my clients home page title will just be the name of their company or will be the name of their company and few very general keywords. Your home page title tag is probably the most important part of search engine optimization, and you’re going to have make some hard choices about what you want to show up for on the search engines. You want to base your title tag decision on some keyword research, and you want to make sure that when you’re writing an effective title tag, that you’re going to show up very high on Page 1 for some keyword terms. If you choose your keyword term carefully, you will be able to show up highly on Page 1. If you choose a keyword that is too difficult or too general, you will never show up no matter what you do. Chances are if you’re a smaller company, you want to look for keywords that other companies your size show up for or are targeting and the best way is to some competitive analysis. Go to your other companies’ websites and look at what they are showing up for or what they’re trying to target with their home page keywords; on their title tag; and do some searches and see how well they’re showing up for those keywords. Generally, you want to go after a longer tailed keyword if you’re not a major corporation, Fortune 500 company. You want to go up with a three-word or a four-word keyword such as if you’re selling accounting software, you would not want to go after the keyword accounting software. You would want to go after the specific brand of accounting software that you sell and perhaps whatever designation; if you’re a VAR or a partner, you might want to say SharePoint Partner New York if you’re trying to show for those keywords. If you carry multiple product lines, you’re going to have to make some hard choice about what product lines you’re going to want to feature on that title tag home page and then use your interior pages to target other keywords. A Title tag only has 70 characters in it, and if you’re going to put your company name into the title tag, it should generally, in fact, it should always go at the end of your title tag, and if you have a long company name, you should try to shorten it, abbreviate it, whatever you can. If it’s too long and takes up too much space, you might want to save your company name and put it in the description tag which will also show up in the search engine listing. Now bear in mind your title tag is what will show up as the headline in your search engine listing for that particular page and for that reason, it’s extremely important that you write a good title tag that uses some keywords and generally describes what your company does within 70 characters. The description tag is about 150 to 160 characters and that is more of a sort of sales pitch that tells in depth what your company does and might highlight some features or benefits that you offer customers specifically. Also if you feel that you’re the type of company that people will be looking for your phone number from a cell phone or a web-enabled cell phone like a car insurance company in New York, you should put your phone number into your description tag as well so people can access it easily to give you a call if that’s all they’re interested in is giving you a quick call, it’s nice to have it available in the description tag.

The Manga Report overwhelmingly supported the efficacy, safety, scientific validity, and cost-effectiveness of chiropractic for low-back pain. Additionally, it found that higher patient satisfaction levels were associated with chiropractic care than with medical treatment alternatives. “Evidence from Canada and other countries suggests potential savings of hundreds of millions annually,” the Manga Report states.

“The literature clearly and consistently shows that the major savings from chiropractic management come from fewer and lower costs of auxiliary services, fewer hospitalizations, and a highly significant reduction in chronic problems, as well as in levels and duration of disability.”

A broadcast interview showing Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion struggling in English to grasp a question about the economy.

In it, host Steve Murphy asks Dion: “If you were prime minister now, what would you have done about the economy and this crisis that Mr. Harper has not done?” Dion struggles to understand the question’s conditional subjunctive tense, before attempting to answer, stumbling as he describes his 30-day, five-point plan for post-election consultations. The anchor reposes the question and the encounter descends into a somewhat farcical encounter, as Dion and the host try to make themselves understood. At one point, an aide explains off-camera what the question is. Dion answers Murphy’s question the third time it is posed.

The U.S. Postal Service recently released a new stamp for the state of Colorado featuring the state’s flag and a mountain in the background. Unfortunately, the stamp’s designer must have been on something when he created it because he featured a mountain from Wyoming on it. The problem was first identified by Bob Michael, a mountain climber, when he realized he had seen the peak before. After looking into it, he realized it was Wyoming’s Mount Helen located in the Wind River Range. A Denver news crew looked into the claim and was startled to find Michael was correct, even though the artist strongly disagrees.

According the USPS, the image “was not based on any specific picture of a mountain.” Yeah, right. Maybe it’s a coincidence the image is extremely similar in shape to a picture of the mountain. Umm, that’s unlikely. Unfortunately, there’s nothing that can be done at this point because the stamp has already gone on sale. Good news for stamp collectors though since this stamp should be worth more than face value if it turns out the artist did copy the Wyoming mountain for its design. We’ll let you make up your own mind though. Just click on the link below to see the comparison.

A Lund, Sweden second-grader was utterly disappointed when his teacher decided to take away his birthday invitations from the whole class. The student handed out invitations before class began to all but two students, causing a bit of a stir. Apparently the school has an actual rule regarding the matter and the teacher felt it was best to mess up the party for everyone as opposed to having a couple of students feel left out. We think he was more jealous of not being invited instead of being opposed to the invitations being handed only to certain students but that’s just our opinion.

“When the teacher arrived, the whole class was upset,” said the school’s principal.
“Those who hadn’t been invited felt sad and left out. The teacher decided to collect all the invitations again, and the student then went and gathered up the cards himself.”

According to school regulations, the child had to either invite all the students, only the girls, only the boys, or not hand out invitations on school grounds. After hearing what happened, the boy’s father filed a complaint with the school district but not for the rule’s existence, but rather for the teacher’s response to the situation. We feel the rule makes sense but they should make the policy more clear to students and their families. In addition, the teacher should have just let it go at that point because no matter what, the students that weren’t invited were already aware they weren’t invited. Taking away everyone’s invitations was not going to help matters.

Last April, McDonald’s issued a series of American Idol themed Happy Meal toys in the US based on musical genres such as disco, country, soul, and rock. Well, “New Wave Nigel” happens to sport an orange jumpsuit, pink shades, and Devo’s energy dome hat. That signature red flower pot hat is what distinguishes Devo from other post-punk banks, and the band is currently suing the food chain for their indiscretion. Further complicating matters is the fact that the toy plays a song suspiciously like Devo’s music. Hmm… the last time I ate McDonald’s I think it made me sick, so I hope Devo beats McDonald’s in this lawsuit. We can’t really see why they wouldn’t. Whip it… whip it good!

We’ve heard of lock downs for criminals with guns, stranger people on campus, and the like. But a ninja? Public schools in Barnegat, New Jersey were locked down temporarily after someone reported a seeing a ninja running through the woods behind an elementary school. Worried, school officials wanted to make sure the ninja wasn’t an assassin of children. Fortunately, the ninja was just a camp counselor dressed in karate garb and was carrying a plastic sword. He was late to a costume-themed day and decided to put his ninja skills to go use, skillfully navigating the trees in the forest. Apparently his ninja skills aren’t the greatest however, as he was both spotted and caused a school lock down. Haha.

Wait a sec, it was a bear!" width="216" height="324" />

53-year-old Tim Egan and his nephew were bicycling in Boulder, Colorado on Tuesday in order to train for the Triple Bypass Bike Race when they had a run in with an animal. The two were going down a hill at about 45 mph when Egan saw a big blur rush out from the trees. At first he thought it was a big dog but was completely startled when he realized it was actually a bear and he was on a collision course with it. Before he could react, Egan had slammed into the bear and was thrown off his bike. That was the least of his worries.

“I remember thinking to myself, ‘I’m alive, but the bear’s here. Oh, this is bad.’ I mean, this bear was as high as my waist. He was extremely well-fed and a big guy. And he wasn’t happy. He looked at me and he opened his mouth,” said Egan.

Egan and his bike flew into the air and slammed onto the ground. Afraid of having broken his back, Egan laid on the ground for several minutes. Unfortunately, the accident severely pissed off the bear as it refused to leave the scene. It stood on its hind legs and roared, successfully expressing it did not appreciate the bump. To the relief of Egan and his nephew, the bear eventually left, apparently unharmed, after a few minutes.

“I don’t think I could have hurt him,” said Egan. “It was literally like running into a brick wall. I’m glad my nephew was here, or nobody would have believed me. I told him, ‘I demand that this story be told at my funeral, because it’ll get a laugh out of everyone.’”

It’s pretty fortunate the guy wasn’t killed from the collision, let alone by the angry bear. We understand he was training for a race but was it really a smart idea to race down the hill at 45 mph? At least he learned his lesson and is unlikely to make the same mistake twice.
